Our school is organised into four classes. The pupils are taught by their class teacher for English, Maths and PSHEe and specialist teachers for Science and PE. In addition to these lessons pupils have a music lesson once a week and a food technology lesson every other week.
We have an activity afternoon on a Wednesday where pupils get the opportunity to participate in a range of different activities throughout their placement. These have included, sweet making, floristry, lego, sports activities, t-shirt printing, art activities, puppet making and sewing.
An important and integral part of our work at Harbour is supporting pupils’ social and emotional development. Every pupil is screened using Thrive-Online assessment tool. The results help us to plan our social and emotional curriculum. We use Thrive-Online to assess and develop action plans for individual pupils. In addition to the 1:1 interventions that are in place we have introduced a Thrive afternoon into our curriculum. The assessments and action plans inform the planning of the activities that are delivered during this afternoon and the groupings of the pupils for this part of our curriculum. Pupils’ assessments are shared with their mainstream school or onward provision to help inform reintegration/transition planning. These provide invaluable evidence to reinforce pupils’ emotional and social needs alongside their academic abilities.
